This shows a small piece of a Printed Circuit board with surface mount, mulitlayer and BGA. If you want to see the whole image, it can be downloaded here but it is about a half a megabyte. It requires the Adobe Reader which may be downloaded free of charge.

Most printed circuit boards have many layers; more than just the obvious ones. For example a "four layer" board can have the following structure:-

  • Top Solder Paste
  • Top Silk Screen
  • Top Solder Mask
  • Top Layer
  • Internal Plane 1
  • Internal Plane 2
  • Bottom Layer
  • Bottom Solder Mask
  • Bottom Silk Screen
  • Bottom Solder Paste

In addition, other layers can be created for example Gold Plated (Au) patterns for switches and many other specialty items.

MacPherson & Associate has been designing Printed Circuit Boards since 1985.

We offer
